general

Chain-type magnetic separators are used for the filtration of fluid contaminated with ferritic particles and tramp oil. F.E.S. separating plants are used for the filtration of the main flow as well as the bypass. The range of separation varies depending on the grade of contamination and the throughput.

remark:

The separator installations can be fed by means of a separate supply pump over existing system pumps (in case of sufficient reserve within the existing installation components) as well as over a free intake (in case of sufficiently great geodetic difference in elevation).

mode of operation

The contaminated fluid enters the separator through the flange (1) which is situated in the bottom area. A distributor cage provides for a uniform flow which is guided along the magnetic rods (2). The magnetic rods move continuously through the dirt liquid tank (6). The speed of the fluid in the area of the magnetic rods is optimized by means of special tank components. On account of the favourable flow conditions and the extremely strong magnetic force of the magnetic rods up to 100 % of the magnetisable pollutants are retained and very fine „filter beards“ are generated on the magnetic rods, which strongly overlap on account of the insignificant distance between the magnetic rods and thus create a thight „filter layer“. This filtering layer binds non-ferritic particles and even tramp oil and conveyes them to the discharge section (3) of the separating plant. In the discharge section, the layer which sticks to the magnetic rods is stripped off and is conveyed to the discharge opening (5) by means of an integrated conveying system (4). The liquid which has passed the magnetic rods is conveyed to the clean section (7) of the separating plant and flows through the discharge flange (8) to a clean liquid tank.

The standard equipment of a magnetic separator includes:

  • dirty liquid tank
  • separated clean liquid tank
  • tank components which optimize the flow
  • continuously circulating magnetic rod chain, equipped with F.E.S. high-grade steel rods with a strong magnetic force
  • discharge unit
  • conveying system for the separated sludge
  • inlet flange, discharge flange and connecting piece for the discharge hose

If requested, collecting containers for the separated sludge can be supplied.

field of application

Chain-type magnetic separators have so far preferably been installed in rolling mills. However, they have also been increasingly engaged in cutting processes – in this case predominantly in order to relieve the filter components within central installations and in case of difficult filtration tasks.

The complete range of 40 – 350 active magnetic rods can be supplied. Each plant is adapted to the respective problems and requirements of the user.

The throughput of the standard versions varies between 500 and 8000 l/min, depending on the case of application and the number of active magnetic rods.

Special constructions facilitate, however, lower or higher liquid flows.
